About Kevin Whitaker
I fell in love with the beauty of nature and the obvious evidence that there was a larger force at work and “in charge”. Too many times in my life I have seen things only God could have wrought; good AND bad! I began taking photos almost 50 years ago as the designated “picture taker” for the family. My dad was in the Air Force all the way through high school. As we traveled all over the world and I took “snapshots” of family functions so they could be sent back to the States and the folks back home. I started taking photos for sheer joy and the pleasurable solitude. When I joined the Marines in 1975, my Vivitar pocket instamatic, was my constant companion until I purchased my first SLR. That piece of art was a Olympus OM-1 purchased in Okinawa, which I used so much I broke the winder (twice). I finally broke down and purchased a Minolta once I had a regular full-time job (non-USMC). It served me well while I got married and started having children and a house. Family, job and general lack of time caused me to put photography on a back burner for about 15 years. In 2000 my mid-life struck hard and I needed something to do. Scuba Diving or Sky Diving….. Scuba won… because of photography . I purchased my first digital camera an Olympus C-3030 3MP and a port & flash for same. As I trained up to dive-master I made 4 week long Live-Aboard dive trips to Southern & Northern Bahamas; the Cayman Islands and Cozumel. When the youngest graduated high school my wife and I committed to photographing every National Park we could possible get to; to date we have done 17 in 5 years. The latest three being 3 Alaska as part of an Anchorage to Vancouver cruise. When that decision was made we, sold all of the scuba gear (except the regs.) and purchased new cameras and new glamping ( if you don’t know, hit the google) gear. Over the years I have tried all types of photography. I have only taken 2 courses (college electives) and I have never been to a seminar of any type (hhuuummm; perhaps I need to). I prefer Landscape photography because of the lines and use of natural light (I hate the harshness ). Nature is both predictable and unpredictable; something identifiable in my own personality. To all my Brothers & Sisters; Semper Fi! All of my work can be found at http://www.ckwphotographydfw.com
